Practice Makes Progress Not Perfection

Philippians 4:9, “Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.”

Paul was talking about putting into practice what he has done which is sharing and living out the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

As Christians we can get so caught up in trying to be perfect that it distracts us from serving and sharing that Jesus is. We must study what He taught, who He is and how He lived so when we claim to live in Him it is in our actions that prove it (1 John 2:6).

Being partnered with Christ means we get to experience His perfection. These perfect moments are when you least expect them. For example, its during those tough times in our life that you want people to see an example of peace and contentment despite your circumstance. It’s in the consistency of your joyful spirit that catches the attention of your co-workers. It’s in these moments where the fruit of your spirit emulates Jesus (Galatians 5:22-23). Practice makes Jesus – who is perfection. We are not in control of the perfect moments. The only thing we can control is our practice in Christ.

1 Timothy 4:15, “Be diligent in these matters; give yourself wholly to them, so that everyone may see your progress. Practice these things, immerse yourself in them, so that all may see your progress.”

Let’s not live for our own perfection but for our progress. Learning one day at a time who Christ is in us. With practice comes failure. Don’t expect perfection in yourself expect it in Christ through your practice.
